According to Lt. Robert Benson, Tondra Lashae Walker, 19, of Poughkeepsie, was pronounced dead at the scene after being partially ejected from her vehicle during the crash that occurred around 8 a.m. Monday on South Quaker Lane and Dana Place in Hyde Park.

A preliminary investigation indicates that James Damico, 63, from Germantown, was traveling south in a 2015 Red Hook School bus on South Quaker Lane when Walker’s vehicle left the roadway and went onto the right shoulder, Benson said.

Police said that Walker attempted to steer her vehicle into the northbound lane and overcorrected, entered the southbound lane and was struck by the school bus. She was partially ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical examiner.

The school bus was occupied by three students, one bus monitor, and Damico. The occupants of the school bus reported no serious injuries and were transported to MidHudson Reginal Hospital for evaluation, Benson added.

The investigation is still ongoing by the Town of Hyde Park Police Department Detective division with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s office.

The Pleasant Valley Fire Department, Mobil Life Ambulance, Roosevelt Fire Department members, New York State Police, and Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office assisted at the scene.
